Ever since I found out I was pregnant my tooth has become A LOT sweeter. A green smoothie in the morning just isn’t quite cutting it. This shake ticks all the right boxes providing an early morning sweet fix together with a great burst of energy from the maca powder and banana. The optional lucuma powder adds a caramel-like flavour – highly recommended! I’m seriously addicted and have been having this shake every day for the last couple of weeks. I recently made it for guests who were staying with us, and they too had cravings every morning afterwards. It’s so moorish and delicious!
INGREDIENTS (serves 1)
- 1 ripe frozen banana
- 1/3 cup brown rice milk (or any other plant based milk)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 medjool date
- Small handful of cashews
- 1/3 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp lucuma powder (optional but highly recommended)
- 1 tsp maca powder (optional optional but highly recommended)
- 1 1/2 tbsp oats (optional to make the shake more filling if desired)
Start by peeling and slicing the banana to freeze for at least two hours or overnight.
Once the banana has frozen, place it together with the rest of the ingredients in a high speed blender (I love the nutri bullet) and blend until smooth!
TOP TIP: I peel and chop my bananas (as soon as they’re ripe) and leave them in the freezer for smoothies. It always makes the smoothie creamier and stops me from throwing any away!
