I bet those clever people who invested in the growing coconut oil market a few years ago didn’t realise they’d also be tapping into the extremely profitable beauty sector. Not only have they cornered the healthy frying, baking and roasting industry but they have also captured the hearts of beauty addicts. I discovered coconut oil about 2 and a half years ago (probably along with the rest of the health-conscious world) and haven’t stopped using it since.
As time has gone on, my coconut oil collection has expanded and I now have coconut oil in the kitchen and bathroom. I’m so happy I no longer have to spend a small fortune on multiple beauty products. I use it as a replacement conditioning hair masque (about once a week), body moisturiser, eye make-up remover and lip balm (everyday). I’d never really thought about it before, but when I looked at the ingredients of some of the products I was using (including expensive brands) I was stunned by the list random chemicals and thought -“I don’t buy food with ingredients I don’t recognise, so why am I buying beauty products?” That’s when my love affair with coconut oil really began.
Now I literally can’t get enough of the stuff. Its especially great for the Dubai climate where my skin gets really dry and my hair is literally crying out for moisture. A big jar lasts a long time too, as you only need the smallest amount. Coconut oil is particularly good for the dry hard skin on your hands formed from heavy weight training. It’s so handy to take on holiday as well. This wonder product is great in the heat as a soothing after-sun moisturiser and thirst-quenching treatment for dry frazzled locks. It also saves luggage weight allowance when flying – big bonus!
My skin and hair always feels so silky and smooth after a good dose of coconut oil. This is because its full of vitamin E, which helps skin and hair cells to repair whilst protecting against aging. Coconut oil is also rich in proteins which promote healing and recovery, helping hair and skin to be more radiant and fresh-looking. I love the fact its completely natural so it feels like you’re really replenishing your body’s needs; a long-standing staple in my bathroom and kitchen that’s for sure.
